The city
was a Celtic settlement until the conquest of the Romans, who used it as a
retreat and healing of the legionaries, taking advantage of its hot springs.
They gave the current name from france and dedicated to the god "Aquae
Granni", the god of health, because its hot springs have healing qualities. In 12th century Carlomagno installed his government and residence at 794,
and where he die, making it the most important Christian cultural center of the
moment. He built his palace and the Palatine Chapel, the more important places
of the city at moment.
